Good Riddance

Posted on December 30, 2007

From a pure sports perspective, I say good riddance to 2007. Could a year have been any worse for the so called sports of our time. Baseball continued to be plagued by the steroid scandal, and came crashing down around us with the Mitchell report that condemend America’s favoirte past time. Football, and dead dogs, need we say anymore!!! Basketball and gambling, tennis and match fixing, hockey and lame brain athletes who continue to mame their opponents by beating, and now stomping. The tour de France, won by an admitted drug user. I’m almost too afraid to say that golf is the only sport that has survived relatively unscathed. Is that the kiss of death?

It’s time for all athletes to have a reality check. They are the luckiest people in the world, how much longer can they continue to abuse the system before we collectively say “enough” and force them to turn out the lights. From their stupid conduct in the past, most of them would find themselves washing cars and collecting garbage if they weren’t athletes. When will you stop the insanity? Will 2008 be the year? Don’t hold your breath.

Holiday Season

Posted on December 12, 2007

What a year 2007 has been. Mostly good, sometimes frustrating but all in all, a solid omen for 2008. I’m taking a brief respite from the media wars to re-charge my batteries. I just want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New year. I hope all your dreams come true. I’ve been remiss in writing this blog on a regular basis, I will make an effort to improve when I get back. I have taken a new role with the College of Sports Media in Toronto, as their television co-ordinator, and we’ll start teaching in February. We have some very bright young men and women who will be taking our course, and it’s an exciting opportunity for me to give something back to a business that has been very good to me over the years. Take care, and more than anything else over the holidays, be good to yourself.
