Respect

Posted on December 9, 2008

I had the privilege of speaking to the 409 Wing at Cold Lake Alberta a few weeks ago. I was impressed by their dedication to their task, as thankless as it’s been for a number of years. Canadians are known as fierce warriors. Just look at the battles that have been waged over the years and the success our armed forces have enjoyed on the international stage. They are currently involved in one of the most difficult assignments ever. They don’t know who the enemy is, literally. They wear no uniforms, they use civilians as human shields, and they set to most despicable IED traps you can imagine. That is where most of Canadian troop losses come from. Three more were brought home yesterday. I happened to be on the 401 just ahead of the procession from CFB Trenton to Toronto on Monday afternoon. I was struck dumb by the show of love and respect on display. At every single over pass all along the highway there were people and flags, and uniformed police officers, and firefighters in full gear, and ambulance drivers. All braving sub-zero temperatures, bitterly cold winds and snow. They were there for one purpose. They were there to show respect and love for three Canadian Heroes who paid the ultimate price for us. And we didn’t even know them. That’s what respect is all about. That what love is all about. That’s what it means to be a Canadian. It made me very proud.

AVERY

Posted on December 5, 2008

What Sean Avery said to the media this week was obviously tasteless, and disgusting. He will be suspended for his statements, but what I find even more intriguing is the way Avery’s stupidity was so blatantly exposed. Normally, if an athlete says anything that can be taken as a “misquote” or “out of context”, he or she is given the benefit of the doubt. Not this time big boy… Avery calmly called the assembled media over, made sure all tape recorders, cameras and lights were on, then made his brief 15 second comment. He then walked away with a cheshire cat grin on his face. He wasn’t smiling when he emerged from Bettman’s office yesterday, and he won’t be he gets his suspension. Life may even become more unpleasant when he can’t find another team to take a flyer on his act. But I find it hard to believe that some general manager won’t take a chance on him, after all, he will sell a few tickets, even if it’s just to see if he gets his face fattened by someone who is an Elisha Cuthbert fan.
Avery will be suspended, but a few games should be added on for being blatantly stupid.

PATHETIC!!!!!

Posted on December 3, 2008

It’s not as if you haven’t heard it before, but I do believe someone slipped some extra strength stupid pills into the drinking water on Parliament Hill in the past few weeks. While the country and the rest of the world goes through one of the most serious financial crises since the great depression, our lofty politicians sit back and play games. Games to save their own political skins. It’s no wonder they’re as reviled around the world as they are today. All four party leaders are rewriting the book on stupidity and partisan politics. Keep in mind, no matter what happens to these cretins, the majority of them will have a nice fat pension to fall back on when their less than illustrious careers have faded into glorious oblivion. The smugness of Harper, the sneer of Layton, the befuddlement of Dion and the scary “cat who swallowed the bird” look on the face of Duceppe tell the story. We are stuck with a gaggle of losers, who only care about themselves. If they say they’re doing what’s right for the country, they’re a bunch of liars. Politicians will do and say whatever it takes to save their own jobs, even if it means ruining the best country in the world.
