November Thoughts
Posted on November 29, 2009
Just so you know, in case you’re curious, I hate winter. I used to love it, but as I get older (AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH), it gets worse. I especially hate it at this time of year, when everything is dead, or seems to be. No life in the trees, brown grass, yuck….
At any rate, I have been following the CRTC cable, network wars since they first started. I don’t know which I hate more, the adds in the paper or the adds on television these whining babies have foisted on us. If they’d only spend it on programming instead of these stupid commercials they’d be better off. I find it hard to feel sorry for the cable companies, especially when I look at my cable bill every month. And I sure as hell don’t feel sorry for the networks either. Prime example, during these difficult financial times, a senior management type from one of the networks just spent over a million to have their office re-decorated. And how about CTV spending millions to buy the Hockey Night in Canada theme, just to stick it to CBC. Havde you missed it from Saturday night? I haven’t. They even buy programming they don’t show just to keep it away from other networks. Talk about waste. And the cable companies aren’t any better. Rogers not only controls half the country, but it also owns its own television stations. Isn’t that a conflict of interest in this battle?
Great to see some much coverage about the Grey Cup this year. TSN is doing a great job of selling the game, as they always do.
